The Rev. Canon Dr. Marda Steedman Sanborn
Marda has most recently been the Rector of St. James in Kent for the past ten years, the Secretary to Convention, and one of the Trainers for the College for Congregational Development. She was ordained to the Diaconate on January 27, 1992, and served a short time at St. Andrew, Tacoma, before being moved to St. Mark’s Cathedral. She was ordained to the priesthood on November 22, 1996, and accepted a call to be Associate Rector at St. James, Kent, beginning Ash Wednesday, February 12, 1997.
Marda has been married to Doug for 25 years and they have a daughter Melissa who recently graduated from WSU with a degree in chemistry; Melissa is continuing her studies at Bellevue College. They have a Schnauzer and Cocker Spaniel which rounds out their family.
The Rev. Christina Jillard, Rector (retired)
Chris grew up in Grove City, PA. Although she felt a calling to ordained ministry as a child, she took a circuitous route to seminary. First, she pursued a career as a professional library administrator and college English teacher, which took her to Ohio, Montana, Illinois, and back to Pennsylvania. In Illinois, after becoming part of an Episcopal church and falling in love with its liturgy, she was confirmed as an Episcopalian. Over the years, she regularly taught Christian education classes, advised youth groups, sang in choirs, and served as a lay leader for worship in local churches. Chris studied at the General Theological Seminary of the Episcopal Church in New York City and has served churches in Brooklyn Heights, NY, and Middletown, PA. Before coming to St. Margaret’s, she was the Rector of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Altoona, PA. Chris and her husband Rick have two grown daughters, and they share their house in Bellevue with a dog and cat (Malcolm and Clancy). Rick is a retired Navy Reserve officer who worked for many years in corporate and retail sales.
The Rev. Christine Demura, Associate Rector
Christie is a life-long Episcopalian baptized and confirmed at St. Margaret’s. She moved to Japan as a young adult and lived there for 24 years. She has a Master’s Degree in Education and a Masters Degree in Pastoral Studies. She taught elementary school in Tokyo for 12 years and was ordained to the priesthood in the Nippon Sei Ko Kai (Anglican Communion of Japan) on Trinity Sunday 2001. She served as a deacon and priest for 2 years at St. Alban’s, Tokyo before returning to the United States and joining the clergy staff at St. Margaret’s in 2002. Christie has two children, Jen and Ty. Jen is currently a high school teacher for students with severe and multiple disabilities, and Ty is living and working in Tokyo, Japan.
The Rev. Larry Ford
Larry Ford is a native of Webster Groves, MO, near St. Louis. He attended the Univ. of Missouri and is a graduate of Washington Univ. in St. Louis and Berkeley Divinity School at Yale. Prior to arriving at St. Margaret’s, he served parishes in Oklahoma, Missouri, Ohio, and Washington. At St. Margaret’s, he has officiated at weekday services and has served for many years as Chaplain for the annual Ft. Stevens camping trip. He enjoys fishing, RV travel, and working with his wife, Peggy, in their health insurance business. Larry and Peggy have two sons in Seattle — Robert (wife Heather) and David (wife Betsy) — and five grandchildren.
